Gauze is cotton woven with an open, airy weave. Six layers of it are stitched together here, and the layers crinkle between the seams into a soft, bubbly texture. The result is a throw that feels substantial in your hands but weighs very little, warm enough to take the edge off a cool evening while air still moves through it. It's a favorite for hot sleepers, summer nights with the windows open and rooms where the air conditioning runs all day.
The cotton is dyed as yarn before it's woven, rather than dyed as finished fabric. That gives a deeper, more even color that holds up well to washing. The fabric has a finish that resists pilling, so the surface stays smooth.
| Size | Good for |
|---|---|
| 51 x 59 in (130 x 150 cm) | One person on the sofa, an afternoon nap, or the foot of the bed |
| 59 x 79 in (150 x 200 cm) | Two people sharing, or a light top layer on a twin or full bed |
The standard US throw is 50 x 60 in (127 x 152 cm), so the smaller size matches it closely. The larger size is near the 60 x 80 in oversized throw and long enough to cover you lying down.
Eleven colors: Greige, White, Light Gray, Sage Green, Mint, Sky Blue, Navy, Light Pink, Butter Yellow, Coral and Rust. Greige, White and Light Gray are quiet neutrals that sit well in any room. Sage Green, Mint and Sky Blue keep a room feeling cool in summer. Navy and Rust are the deeper colors, good on a cream or light gray sofa where a pale throw would disappear. The crinkle texture adds soft shadow, so every color looks a little richer in person.
Keep one on the sofa for evenings and another on the bed for warm nights, when a duvet is too much. It folds small, so it also travels well: in the car, on a flight or to the beach.
Machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle with similar colors, and wash it on its own the first time. Tumble dry on low or hang it to dry, out of strong sun to keep the color at its best. Like most cotton, gauze can shrink a little in a hot wash or a hot dryer. It never needs ironing, since the crinkle is part of the fabric, and it gets softer with every wash.
One throw in the size and color you choose. Delivery is $6.95, free on orders from $49, and you have 30 days to send it back unwashed if it isn't right for you.
They're close cousins. Both are loosely woven cotton, and muslin is often used as the name for cotton gauze. This throw is six layers of yarn-dyed gauze with a pronounced crinkle, while our Cotton Muslin Throw has a flatter, smoother surface.
Yes. The open weave lets heat and moisture escape, so it keeps you comfortable rather than warm. It's the throw to reach for on summer nights or in a room with the air conditioning on.
The yarn is dyed before weaving, so the color goes all the way through. Wash it cold with similar colors and dry it out of strong sun, and it keeps its color well.
51 x 59 in (130 x 150 cm) is close to the standard 50 x 60 in throw and suits one person. Take 59 x 79 in (150 x 200 cm) if you share the sofa or like to lie down under the throw.
