Why the ribs matter

The pile on this throw is cut into wide, rounded channels that run from one end to the other. Those ribs do more than look good. They give the throw body, so it falls in heavy, soft folds over a sofa arm instead of lying flat, and the channels hold warm air close to you the way a quilted comforter does. Run a hand across it and the pile feels dense and smooth, close to real rabbit fur, without the care that real fur needs.

The fur is a polyester plush with a finish that resists pilling, so it keeps its soft, even surface after washing. It's a warm throw for fall and winter, for cool living rooms and for anyone who's always the first to reach for a blanket.

Sizes

Size Good for
39 x 59 in (100 x 150 cm) One person, a lap on the sofa, or the back of an armchair
47 x 79 in (120 x 200 cm) One person lying full length on the sofa, or a single bed
59 x 79 in (150 x 200 cm) Two people sharing the sofa, or across the foot of a queen bed

The standard US throw is 50 x 60 in (127 x 152 cm). The smallest size here is a little narrower than that and about the same length, so it suits one person sitting up. The two larger sizes are long enough to cover your feet when you lie down, and the largest is close to the 60 x 80 in size often sold as an oversized throw.

Colors

Six colors: Cream, Oatmeal, Silver Gray, Charcoal, Blush Pink and Moss Green. Cream and Oatmeal are soft neutrals that work on almost any sofa and brighten a dark one. Silver Gray and Charcoal suit gray, black and leather couches and hide everyday wear best. Blush Pink and Moss Green add color to a plain room. The ribs catch the light, so every shade shows a gentle highlight along each channel.

Using it around the house

Fold it in thirds lengthways and lay it over the back of the sofa, or drop it in a loose pile on one end so it's ready when you sit down. The larger sizes double as a warm layer at the foot of the bed in winter. It's also the throw to take to the couch on movie night, since there's room for two under the largest size.

Washing and care

Machine wash it cold on a gentle cycle with a mild liquid detergent, on its own the first time. Skip fabric softener, which flattens the pile, and skip bleach. Tumble dry on low or hang it to dry, then give it a good shake to lift the ribs again. Don't iron the fur. A new faux fur throw can drop a few loose fibers in the first wash or two; after that it settles down.

What arrives

One throw in the size and color you choose. Delivery is $6.95, free on orders from $49, and you have 30 days to send it back unwashed if it isn't right for you.

Questions

Which size should I choose for my sofa?

For one person sitting up, 39 x 59 in (100 x 150 cm) is plenty. If you like to lie down under a throw, take 47 x 79 in (120 x 200 cm). If two of you share the sofa, the 59 x 79 in (150 x 200 cm) size covers you both.

Is it warm enough for winter?

Yes. The dense ribbed pile holds warm air close, so it feels far warmer than a fleece throw of the same size. For summer nights or hot sleepers, a cotton gauze throw is the lighter choice.

Can it go in the washing machine?

Yes. Wash it cold on a gentle cycle with a mild liquid detergent and no fabric softener, then tumble dry on low or hang it to dry. Shake it out afterwards to lift the pile.

Does the faux fur shed?

A new faux fur throw can drop a few loose fibers in the first wash or two, then it settles down. Washing it on its own the first time keeps those fibers off the rest of your laundry.
