The Plush Velvet Cushion Cover

Soft velvet for colder months

This is a velvet stretch cover with a short, dense pile and a low sheen. Run a hand across it and the pile shifts shade slightly, which gives every color depth. The polyester velvet knit is about 180 gsm, thick enough to soften the feel of a firm cushion and to hide small marks on the upholstery underneath, and an elastic edge closes it under the cushion.

Velvet is the natural pick for fall and winter, and the colors suit it: Camel, Chocolate, Marigold and Wine Red sit alongside grays, Cream and Black.

Which size fits your cushion

Measure the cushion's length across the front, its depth from front to back and its height. Standard sizes fit cushions 20 to 26 in (50 to 65 cm) deep. Deep sizes fit cushions 26 to 37 in (65 to 95 cm) deep. The Chaise size fits a chaise cushion 63 to 75 in (160 to 190 cm) long and 35 to 43 in (90 to 110 cm) deep. All sizes take cushions 2 to 8 in (5 to 20 cm) tall.

The chart in the photos calls these Normal and Plus sizes, and the Chaise size L-shaped. A chaise cover plus single or bench covers in the same color dresses a whole sectional in matching velvet.

Colors

Choose from Light Gray, Charcoal, Black, Cream, Mushroom, Camel, Chocolate, Butter Yellow, Marigold, Pink, Wine Red, Forest Green, Peacock Blue and Navy. Velvet looks lighter or darker depending on which way the pile lies, so two covers can look slightly different until the pile runs the same way on both. In lamp light the shades turn deeper and warmer than in the daylight photos.

Putting it on

Line the pile up the same way on every cushion: brush a hand across each cover and turn it until they all look the same shade. Then hook the front corners, stretch the cover around the back corners and let the elastic close underneath. Smooth it from the center out.

Care

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle inside a laundry bag, without bleach or fabric softener, and air dry. Don't iron velvet. If the pile flattens where people sit most, brush it gently with a soft clothes brush once it's dry and it lifts again.
